It has truly been a very busy week at Exit 0. Last Sunday was especially meaningful as we gathered to say thank you to Toni T’s Cobblers and More and Theresa Lamb for providing a warm meal. Their generosity made a big difference for our community members. We also welcomed 20 people to church, creating a sense of togetherness and support. Such collaborations bring hope and nourishment to those who need it, showing how kindness can create a ripple effect in our community.
tirelessly Sunday
Our street outreach team worked tirelessly on Sunday. They took to the streets with 30 meals and essential supplies, reaching out to those who might be struggling. It’s heartwarming to see the dedication and commitment of volunteers as they connect with people in need. Each meal delivered holds not just food but also love and care. These efforts remind us of the importance of community support and the impact we can have when we come together to help those facing tough times.

Tonight was another success as we provided 24 showers and 15 loads of laundry for our guests. Along with these services, we also distributed hygiene items and other supplies necessary for daily living. Our partnership with Heaven's Eyes allowed us to serve 30 individuals with a late-night meal, reinforcing our mission to offer comfort and care. We greatly appreciate all those who contribute to our outreach program. Your support keeps our ministry going strong—thank you for making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Why can't Louisville seem to get a handle on homelessness?

Not for lack of trying. Over the last ten years, the city has built a low-barrier shelter, a safe outdoor space, and an outreach team. They purchased a $6M property to be turned into a "Community Care Campus" (a work in progress). And most recently announced another new initiative, 'Home for Good,' aimed at moving people into permanent housing.

Here's the part that's hard to explain: a program already doing exactly that is closing this month.

Since 2022, the Arthur Street Hotel has moved more than 400 people out of tents and into permanent housing- 90% of the people who left last year went straight into a home of their own. And now it's closing.

Why? Funding challenges- and a city that keeps reinventing the wheel instead of funding the people already turning it. Read my new article now ⤵️
