City leaders look for solutions to homelessness in Southern Indiana

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) — A sweep on a homeless camp in Jeffersonville, has been put on hold.

Homeless people living below I-65 in Jeffersonville have their belongings back that were taken in a sweep.

The charity that feeds the homeless six days a week, “Jesus Cares at Exit 0,” said those sweeps would be temporarily suspended.

Last week, the city cleaned the area, calling it a public health issue, but some complained more than trash had been taken.

The charity talked with Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore about what can be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

According to a press release from Moore’s office, the “Jeffersonville-Clarksville Task Force on Homelessness” has been set up to examine the two southern Indiana communities.
